No Pressure

Flash trick of the day.

Q: Want a more even line weight when drawing your characters?
A: DONT USE PRESSURE SENSITIVITY!

I don’t know about you but I’ve been using Flash just about everyday since they were Macromedia Flash MX and have updated every version along the way. One of the biggest things that should have been fixed was that wonky smooth setting. I couldn’t get the zoom level and the smooth setting to work in a way that didn’t throw my pressure sensitivity completely out of whack with my Wacom tablet.

So just today i was like “I’m turning this setting off” and found out something remarkable. My line weight was more even and I found myself spending less time fixing my lines with bezier handles and more time drawing. I know what you’re thinking, “But you’re using a wacom tablet what’s the point in turning that off when that The best feature about the tablet is that pressure sensitivity?”

The cool thing about turning the pressure off is that your tilt now works as a means to vary the line width and it’s just enough to vary the line and not completely reshape it when you take the pen off the tablet. It may not work for you but it’s perfect for me.
